Tribute to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew (1923 – 2015)

Cruise down Singapore River - 1987

Our Society of Environmental Health (Singapore) is deeply saddened by the passing of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father of modern Singapore.

We have much to thank Mr. Lee for his vision, foresight and tireless efforts to make Singapore a clean, green and a liveable nation. The high standard of environmental health that our nation enjoys today, would not have been achieved without his vision, guidance and contributions. Cleaning of Singapore River was a prime example of how he put emphasis on improving the environment in Singapore, and how much he wanted to see the physical transformation of the River into a vibrant and iconic place that it is today.

The contributions of Mr. Lee to our nation cannot be fully put into the words. But what he has done for the nation will be remembered for years to come, and his passion for environmental issues will continue to resonate with the people in Singapore.

The Society expresses its deepest condolences to Prime Minister Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Ms. Lee Wei Ling, Mr. Lee Hsien Yang, and their families
